Jay-Z is adding to his collection of platinum plaques. Released on Tuesday, the rapper's latest album "Magna Carta Holy Grail" has already been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Jay earned his 12th platinum award by selling 1 million digital copies of the album to Samsung Mobile ahead of "Magna Carta's" physical release date. The Samsung copies were given away five days before the album was released to the public.
When news of the partnership first emerged, it was unclear whether the million album sale would be counted by the RIAA or Billboard's music charts. However, the RIAA recently announced that Jay's marketing techniques had caused the association to change their rules to allow digital album sales to be eligible for certification immediately upon an album's release.
